The patron saint of Cercepiccola is Saint Donatus, celebrated on 7 August.
The town's name, shared with nearby Cercemaggiore, recalls the ancient Quaercus Maior and Quaercus Minor, names by which the two centres were already known around the 11th century: only conjectures remain about the event that gave rise to the two towns. During the Middle Ages Cercepiccola was a fief that passed, through sales and inheritances, to several noble families, until it reached the Carafa, who in 1571 had the current quadrangular ducal palace built, still visible in the town today.
