The most important event in Montelongo is the Palio delle Contrade, the 'Corsa dei cavalli' (horse race), tied to the patronal feast of San Rocco on 16 August: on the day of the Palio the five contrade bring out all their pride.
The feast of Sant'Antonio features a cart decked with flowers that follows the procession, drawn by two cows, and bonfires lit for thirteen evenings in the various contrade of the village. For the feast of Saint Joseph some families set up a table with thirteen dishes and distribute the bread of San Giuseppe.
