The patron of Sant'Angelo Limosano is Saint Peter Celestine, Pope Celestine V, whose liturgical feast is celebrated on 19 May, the day of his death at Fumone in 1296; according to the sources he was born in Isernia or in Sant'Angelo Limosano, around 1209-1215.
Pietro Angelerio, known as Pietro da Morrone, was elected pope at Perugia on 5 July 1294 and crowned in L'Aquila on 29 August in the basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio, which he had had built a few years earlier; his pontificate lasted until 13 December 1294 and in those months he created the Perdonanza, an annual jubilee celebration still held today.
