The patron saint of Fornelli is Saint Peter Martyr, celebrated on 29 April, in the church dedicated to him, heavily damaged by the seismic events of the 1980s.
The town's co-patron is instead Saint Dominic the Abbot, whose cult is thought to have been brought to Fornelli by populations who arrived in ancient times: the hermitage of Saint Dominic of Sora at Villalago, in the province of L'Aquila, is still today, every year, the destination of a pilgrimage by the Fornelli community. The town also preserves the Matese National Park and its own fortified village.
