The patroness of Rocchetta a Volturno is Santa Maria delle Grotte, celebrated on 22 August. The rock sanctuary that bears the name lies a few kilometres down the valley, towards Scapoli: Benedictine architecture, frescoes of good quality, and a dependence on the monks of San Vincenzo al Volturno. It goes back to the 12th century, and the Romanesque side portal has splayed round arches, frescoed, with small columns topped by foliate capitals.
In the bell tower of the church of Santa Maria Assunta, at Rocchetta Alta, a bell of 1331 was found bearing the name of its donor: Frater Franciscus, prior of Santa Maria delle Grotte.
