For centuries this was not a village but Candelo's summer pasture: shepherds came up in the warm months and lived in a few straw-roofed huts. The settlement took root, became a hamlet of Andorno and in 1699 won the right to govern itself; beside the flocks, hat-making took over. In the twentieth century Andorno absorbed it again and renamed itself Andorno Micca; Tavigliano became a comune once more in 1954.
The territory runs north to south, from the Sessera almost to the Cervo, and takes in a detached administrative island up the Cervo valley, ending at the Cima di Bo. From Causso you see the town strung along the slope, with its late seventeenth-century church and the stone tower that carries the clock.
