Feast of the Madonna della Salesea
📅 Every year, on the second Sunday of September
On the second Sunday of September Cardè, a municipality of 1,134 inhabitants in the province of Cuneo, celebrates its patroness the Madonna della Salesea.
Cardè was a wood before it was a village. Thirteenth-century documents speak of a nemus Cardesii, Cardeti, Cardei; in 1324 it is explicit: nemus quod appellatum est Cardettum. The name comes from the rough ground, thick with brambles and wild thistles. The Po crosses it, and by convention Cardè is the first village of the Po plain.
The castle, from the same century, was raised by Manfredo II to guard the marquisate of Saluzzo. In 1706, along the Po, French and Piedmontese troops clashed in what became the battle of Cardè: Vittorio Amedeo II escaped capture. The parish church of Santa Caterina raises a narrow bell tower with two clock faces.
