Narzole

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 3,532 · Postal code: 12068

Under the French occupation a band was at work here, the Fratelli di Narzole, made up indeed of brothers and cousins: intimidation and demands for payment, with raids reaching the Mondovì country and Liguria. Some read it as political brigandage against the occupiers, since the band was said to be funded by the English.

Nothing is left of the Middle Ages: neither the castle, of which there are no remains, nor the abbey of Sancte Virginis Mariae Narzolis, granted by emperor Louis III to Agilulfo, bishop of Asti. The town belonged to Cherasco and became a comune of its own in 1802, by decree of Napoleon.
