Ruffia

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 350 · Postal code: 12030

Ruffia has been traced to one man's house: a document of 1143 calls it «domo Rodulfi», the house of a Rodolfo; the name then ran through Rodulfia, Rufa and Ruffa. By the later thirteenth century it was already «castrum et villa», and the castle stayed with the Cambiano, who bore its name, until the end of the eighteenth century.

In 1928 the comune was abolished and joined to Scarnafigi, which held the seat; Ruffia came back into being only in 1947. Its arms are a silver bend on a green field, charged with two shoots of the same green: the bend may repeat that of the Cambiano.
