The patron of Carignano is Saint Remigius of Reims, celebrated on the last Sunday of September. His name is an old one here: one of the Romanesque pievi of the area was named after him, and around it stood one of the three curtes documented in Carolingian times.
Today the saint is co-titular, with Saint John the Baptist, of the 18th-century cathedral that rises in the old town: Benedetto Alfieri designed it and Paolo Gaidano decorated it. It is a church that overturns the usual patterns, with a convex façade and a single nave from which, entering by the main door, you can see all six chapel altars at once, beneath a monumental ring vault.
