Osasio

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 913 · Postal code: 10040

Osasio was once Olsazio, and the earliest records list it as a fief of the Sacra di San Michele. The village sits on an old border between the Turin and Cuneo areas: on one side the counts of Savoy, on the other the marquisate of Saluzzo, with the Po between them.

In 1440 a contract handed twenty-four families still marshy land, to be drained in exchange for three hundred gold ducats; the original is in the town archive and counts as the birth certificate of the comune. At the village edge the church of San Rocco shows a triangular pediment, two frescoed niches and a date in Roman numerals.
