Lombriasco

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,056 · Postal code: 10040

Lombriasco stands on the left bank of the Po, but its land crosses the river and takes in the mouth of the Maira. Two farmsteads over the water, Oltre Po and La Spina, carry it to Racconigi between Carmagnola and Casalgrasso, which miss a common border by metres; a piece of Carmagnola lies inside Lombriasco, and a piece of Lombriasco inside Carignano.

In 1173 the marquis Manfredo II of Romagnano gave away everything to found a priory of twelve Augustinian monks, who opened the fields and built a mill and a crossing over the river. The fascist regime dissolved the comune into Pancalieri in 1928; autonomy returned in 1947. The yellow bell tower with its clock rises above the roofs.
