The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, patron of the town of the medieval castle
📅 Every year, on 8 September
Pavone Canavese celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on 8 September.
The Romans founded the place, and the name comes from that: from pagus, village, or from pagone, a large village, or again from podoascum, marshy ground kept for pasture. As for the peacock, the source is blunt: deriving the word from the bird is to be rejected.
And yet a peacock is there on the arms, blue and with its tail spread. It was put there by Alfredo d'Andrade, the architect who in 1885 bought the town's medieval castle and kept it as his own residence. The arms with the peacock were officially granted in 1982.
