The patron saint of Aci Bonaccorsi is Saint Stephen the protomartyr, celebrated on 3 August.
The name of the Aci territory recalls the myth, narrated by the poets Virgil and Ovid, of the love between the nymph Galatea and the young shepherd Acis, and of the Cyclops Polyphemus. In Roman times a city called Akis existed here, which took part in the Punic Wars; its medieval history, as Jachium first and then as Arab Al-Yag, is closely intertwined with that of the nearby castle of Aci, while it was precisely in this period that the sanctuary of Valverde was founded. The village of Aci Bonaccorsi began to form as a distinct entity from the 15th century, made up of the districts of Liuna, Battiati and Pauloti, later identified by the name of the Bonaccorsi family. The town also preserves the church of Santa Maria dell'Indirizzo, that of Sant'Antonio Abate, that of Santa Lucia and that of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
