Included within the boundaries of the Etna Park, Zafferana Etnea sits roughly 20 kilometres north of Catania and 160 kilometres southeast of Palermo. Known in the local Sicilian dialect as Zafarana, the municipality occupies a wide area on the volcanic slopes.
