On 7 August San Teodoro, a municipality of 1,421 inhabitants in the province of Messina, celebrates its patron Saint Cajetan of Thiene (san Gaetano di Thiene).
The old village lay down below, in the Fondachello district, by the torrent: at the end of the seventeenth century malaria forced people to move higher up, onto the slopes of Monte Abate, where the air was healthier. In 1692 the prince had the first house and the church built there.
The fief had been granted in 1303 by Frederick III to Giordano Romano, and for centuries it passed from hand to hand down to the Campolo marquises. In 1929 the comune was abolished and attached to Cesarò; it became independent again in 1940. Just outside stands Borgo Giuliano, a rural village built by the fascist regime in 1939 and abandoned today. There are 1,421 residents.
