The patron saint of Nizza di Sicilia is Saint Joseph, venerated as patron of the town «aeque principalis» together with the Madonna Assumed into Heaven: the church dedicated to him stands at the heart of the Fiumarello district, while the church of Santa Maria Assunta, dedicated to the co-patroness, stands in the Landro and Casapinta district. The cult of the Assumed Virgin arose from the evolution of the ancient and eagerly awaited Sagra di Treaire, with the pilgrimage from Allume, games and the setting up of a small altar with the image of the Assumption: in 1892 the first church dedicated to her was built, whose liturgical and outdoor feast culminates with the procession of 15 August.
Both churches today belong to the parish of «Santa Maria Assunta e San Giuseppe». The town also venerates the Immaculate Conception, whose liturgical and outdoor feast culminates with the procession of 8 December and, every five years, with the procession to the sea.
