The church of San Sebastiano says nothing from outside: inside it is all lacework of stucco, medallions and frescoes, the work of Vincenzo Messina, who had learned from Serpotta. For years it was the pantheon of the Colonna, and Isabella Gioeni Colonna is buried there.
The town was founded in the early fourteenth century by count Matteo Sclafani, but his surname entered the name only in 1863. It stands at 658 metres, between the Belice valley and that of the Sosio, and on the hill above the houses is the Olivetan monastery, three wings around a triangular courtyard, today with a cherry garden inside. In 1951 there were 6,193 residents: now there are 2,957.
