On May 23, 1992, this Sicilian town became permanently etched into Italian history. An explosion on the A29 motorway running through the municipality killed anti-Mafia judge Giovanni Falcone and his entourage in what is now known as the Capaci bombing. A solemn memorial marks the exact site of the attack today, serving as a sobering reminder of the island's fight against organized crime.
Home to just over 11,000 residents, the municipality sits directly on the primary route connecting Palermo to Punta Raisi Airport. While globally recognized for its tragic past, it functions practically as a key transit corridor for travelers heading toward the western and southwestern reaches of the island.

Capaci celebrates Saint Erasmus on 2 June; for the feast of Saint Joseph, some devotees still prepare a soup following a 16th-century recipe, once distributed to the poor, while every other year the town re-enacts its founding, which took place on 18 March 1517 under the Beccadelli family.
