The patron saint of Palazzolo Acreide is Saint Paul the Apostle, celebrated on 25 January and 29 June. The basilica dedicated to him, together with that of Saint Sebastian, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 27 June 2002, at the 26th plenary session held in Budapest, as part of the serial site of the Late Baroque towns of the Val di Noto.
The celebrations last three days: on the first, concerts are held in the public garden, the «sirata â villa»; on the second, called «a viggìlia», the «unveiling» of the saint takes place at the high altar of his own church, the so-called «sciuta râ càmmira». Also deeply felt in the town are the feasts of Saint Sebastian, on 20 January and 10 August, of Our Lady of Sorrows, on the third Sunday of September and Good Friday, and of Saint Michael, on 8 May and the Sunday following 29 September.
