The patroness of Sortino is Saint Sophia, and her feast lasts a week: from 10 to 17 September. The church that bears her name is one of the town's two great churches, together with the mother church of San Giovanni Apostolo ed Evangelista.
The local calendar has two more heartfelt dates: U Nummu ru Gesu, the Name of Jesus, the old Good Friday procession that begins at half past three in the morning and goes on until about seven, and the honey festival, usually on the first weekend of October, devoted to the main product of the town's economy.
