The patron of Sarteano is Our Lady of Good Counsel, celebrated on 26 April.
On 15 August, the Giostra del Saracino jousting event is held, a tradition of great antiquity: the first archival document dates back to 1583, and after some long periods of interruption the joust has been held regularly again since 1982. From 29 June, the day of condottiero Piccinino's retreat, the population also paid an annual thanksgiving procession for many years, from the settlement below the castle up to the inner gate. The town also holds the Collegiate Church of San Lorenzo.
