Sellano

Province: Perugia · Region: Umbria · Population: 1,140 · Postal code: 06030

Since 2024 a Tibetan bridge hanging 175 metres up has linked Sellano to the castle of Montesanto: it is the highest in Europe.

There are three ideas about the name: the people of the gens Suilla whom Pliny names, the soldiers of Sulla who are said to have founded the town in 84 BC after the battle of Spoleto, or simply the sella, the saddle of the pass; and that last one has won, because on the coat of arms the archangel Michael stands on a saddle. The earthquakes of 1997 and 2016 hit hard, and the village was put back exactly as it was. The springs of the 1,140 residents also supply Spoleto.
