The patron saints of Cittadella are Saints Prosdocimus and Donatus, bishops, celebrated on the Monday after the fourth Sunday of October in the Duomo, the archpriestal church dedicated to them.
The construction of the parish church of San Donato, in the hamlet of the same name, is dated to the 6th century: it was the main place of worship in the area before the consecration of the town's cathedral. Cittadella, whose founding dates to the 13th century, stands in an area once called the «kingdom of the forest and the marsh». The town also holds its distinctive medieval walls and the Torre di Malta.
