The Nativity of Mary, patron of the land of Villa Sebellin
📅 Every year, on 8 September
Rossano Veneto celebrates the Nativity of the Virgin Mary on 8 September.
The parish church of Rossano stands where a castle once was, and the moats that defended it are still there around it: it was founded in the mid-eleventh century by a noblewoman named Ermiza together with her son Forzura, and from her descended the family that called itself da Rossano. The village name, though, is older: the estate of a certain Roxius.
Then Venice dug the canals, and with the water of the Brenta mills, sawmills, forges and paper mills were set going: Favini, the oldest factory in the village, dates from 1736 and still makes paper today. Racing bicycles and alloy wheels are built here too, and in the nineties a municipality of a few thousand people counted nine hundred firms.
