Within the crenellated walls of the castle that names it, Castelfranco keeps its genius: Giorgione, born here around 1477, whose altarpiece with its high throne and dreaming landscape — in the cathedral — is one of the thresholds of modern painting. The house tradition assigns him hosts the museum; the eighteenth-century Academic Theatre is a velvet jewel.
