"Always dear to me was this lonely hill": the hill is this one, the garden on the edge of Mount Tabor where a twenty-one-year-old Giacomo Leopardi wrote in 1819 the fifteen most celebrated lines of Italian poetry. Today it is a literary park kept by the FAI trust: the hedge is still there, the horizon too, and the walk starts from Casa Leopardi through the places of his "village Saturday".
The "interminable spaces" face the Sibillini mountains one way and the Adriatic the other.
Our tip: read (or reread) "L'Infinito" on the belvedere bench, ideally at sunset: a simple experience no explanation replaces. The visit to Casa Leopardi, with his father's library, completes the pilgrimage.
