The patron saint of Cancellara is Saint Blaise, celebrated on 3 February. The town's mother church, dedicated to Santa Maria del Carmine, was built in 1520; the town also has the churches of Santa Caterina di Alessandria and San Rocco.
Cancellara is known for its historic centre, built entirely in stone over the centuries and still almost intact, with monumental fountains, town gates and 18th- and 19th-century portals; the medieval castle that dominates it served as the set for the film Mineurs – minatori e minori by Fulvio Wetzl (2007), set in 1961, and for the documentary Storie di memoria popolare (2017) by Giovanni Salvatore, devoted to the bond between the castle and the community that has lived around it over the decades.
