The patron saint of Aversa is Saint Paul, celebrated on 25 January with the traditional procession through the town's streets; at the same time of year, celebrations are also held in some of the town's cloisters, including that of Saint Anthony of Padua, together with the procession of Our Lady of Sorrows, called «la ricca» by the people of Aversa, venerated in the parish dedicated to her.
The co-patron of Aversa is the Madonna of Casaluce, whose icon is tied to a striking border ritual: on 15 October she is solemnly accompanied in procession to the boundary between Aversa and Casaluce, in Borgo San Lorenzo, where at 12:30 she is handed over to the town of Casaluce, which keeps her until the following 15 June. During the second week of September, the liturgical and civic celebrations in her honour are held instead, with solemn ceremonies, a procession and festive events that enliven the streets of the old town.
