The patron saint of Melito di Napoli is Saint Stephen the Protomartyr, celebrated on the Monday after the second Sunday of October. His statue is kept in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, located on the central Piazza Santo Stefano: the building was entirely rebuilt on a central plan by Giuseppe Astarita between 1766 and 1768, on the remains of an earlier, crumbling church presumably dating from 987, despite an alternative design having also been presented by the architect Niccolò Carletti. The concave-convex facade faces towards Naples, while sideways it follows the curving course of the main state road, acting as a genuine urban hinge on the model of the church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane.
The municipal territory also holds the 17th-century church of Santa Maria di Piedigrotta and the Colonne di Giugliano, a geographic landmark at the town's northern edge, on the border with the municipality of Giugliano in Campania.
