This village never moved, but it changed address six times. Its church, first mentioned in a document of 1258, was aggregated to the pieve of Nervi, then passed to Bogliasco, then returned to Nervi, then to Bargagli, then to Davagna, and today it belongs to yet another vicariate. The papers moved; Viganego stayed put.
What to see
The first aggregation to Nervi happened almost at once and lasted nearly three centuries. In the sixteenth century an apostolic decree united the church with that of Bogliasco, in the Golfo Paradiso, but the union held only a few years: in 1553 a Dominican archbishop dismembered the two communities and Viganego went back under Nervi.
In the seventeenth century cardinal Stefano Durazzo aggregated it to the vicariate of Bargagli; in the mid nineteenth another cardinal moved it to that of Rosso, at Davagna. Each time it was a question of deciding which centre a hill community should answer to, and each time the answer changed along with whoever was in charge.
Visiting
The church is in via Giovanni Carbone, in the settlement of Viganego, on the heights of the municipality of Bargagli, above the val Bisagno; it is a parish church and opens for services. Twenty minutes.

Look at where the paths from here lead: some go down towards the sea, towards Nervi and Bogliasco, others climb the valley towards Bargagli and Davagna. In those routes lies the explanation of six centuries of paperwork: a hill village was assigned to the centre it was easiest to reach on foot, and every time the road changed the jurisdiction changed with it.
