Camogli has three patrons. The Madonna del Boschetto is celebrated on 2 July, in memory of the apparition seen on that date in 1518 by Angiola Schiaffino, on the spot where the sanctuary dedicated to her now stands.
Saint Prospero falls on 31 August: he was bishop of Tarragona and in 409, returning from a visit to the pope, lay down to rest on the Roman road above Camogli and died there. Saint Fortunato, a Roman legionary converted to Christianity and killed in the circus by his own comrades, is celebrated on the second Sunday of May: his body reached the town in 1710, through the insistence of the Camogli priest Father Pellegrino De Negri, confessor to Pope Clement XI.
It is on the eve of his feast that the bonfires are lit, the night before the fish festival.
