In September Mendatica puts the transhumance back on stage: the historic procession of the alpine pastures crosses the village in costume, reconstructing the life of shepherds who went up to the summer pastures and brought the flocks back down towards the coast at the end of the season.
The goat palio is the cheerful part of the day: the pastures of the district compete in a symbolic contest that recalls how much herding once mattered here. The event, which began in the 1980s, is held under the patronage of the Liguria Region and of the Ligurian Alps regional park; the 2025 edition took place on 21 September.
