The patron saint of Pieve di Teco is Saint Sebastian, celebrated on 20 January.
The town arose from a founding project that called for the settlement of around 200-300 families in a new borgo, equipped with a new castle and a new church, today's oratory of San Giovanni Battista. In 1370 the Benedictines built the first parish church of the Madonna della Ripa, while the present collegiate church of San Giovanni Battista was built around 1460 in Gothic style and rebuilt in Neoclassical style between 1782 and 1806 to a design by Gaetano Cantoni. The municipality's name derives from the Latin Plebs, a community or church on which other rural religious buildings depend, perhaps combined with the Greek teîkhos, fortified citadel, recalling the brief Byzantine rule in the 6th century along the border of maritime Liguria against the Lombards.
The municipal territory also holds the sanctuary of the Madonna dei Fanghi, at the confluence of the Arroscia torrent with the Fanghi stream, and Forte Richermo, on the border with Pornassio, one of the 19th-century fortifications of the Sbarramento di Nava.
