Feast of Saint Ambrose
📅 Every year, on 7 December
On 7 December Alassio celebrates Saint Ambrose, bishop of Milan, in the parish church that has borne his name since 1507.
At Alassio there is a wall made of signatures: coloured ceramic tiles with the names of people who have passed through. They call it the Muretto, and it stands in the centre, a few steps from the Budello, the paved lane that runs through the town.
The English have always come to Alassio, and on the olive hills they built their villas. In the winter between 1903 and 1904 Edward Elgar stayed here and wrote the overture In the South (Alassio). The beach is low and sandy and draws a long curve, from Capo di Santa Croce to Capo Mele. There are 11,026 residents.
