On 6 December Albisola Superiore celebrates Saint Nicholas; on 15 August, instead, the Madonna goes out to sea with «A Madonna du ma».
There are two Albisole, and they are spelled differently: Albisola Superiore with one s, Albissola Marina with two. The blame is said to lie with a transcription error by the heraldic council in 1915, when it granted the new coat of arms. Together they make the Albisole, and together they make the ceramics.
Ceramics has been the trade here for centuries. Before that came Alba Docilia, the Roman station on the road between Genoa and Vado Ligure marked on the Tabula Peutingeriana; and in 2008, digging for a new building, three tombs with Iron Age cinerary urns came to light. There are 10,407 residents.
