The patron of Tovo San Giacomo is Saint James the Greater, celebrated on 25 July with the traditional procession through the streets of the town. The municipality, in the hinterland behind Borgio Verezzi and Finale Ligure, took its present name by a decree of 8 April 1863, and also includes the hamlets of Bardino Vecchio and Bardino Nuovo, merged into it in 1928.
In Bardino Nuovo itself, in the former town hall, the Museo dell'orologio da torre Giovanni Battista Bergallo has been housed since 1997, gathering mechanisms, hands, dials and memorabilia of clocks made in the Bergallo family's workshop between 1860 and 1980: among the stories told is that of a tower clock sold in 1934 to the Salesian mission of Puerto Santa Cruz, in Argentine Patagonia.
