Segrate

Province: Milan · Region: Lombardy · Population: 33,519 · Postal code: 20090

Segrate concentrates three icons of the Italian twentieth century within a few kilometres: the Mondadori headquarters designed by Oscar Niemeyer — the Brazilian arch suspended over water, among the metropolis's most photographed buildings — the Idroscalo, Milan's "sea", born for seaplanes and now an Olympic park of rowing and concerts, and Milano 2, the laboratory quarter of 1970s television-age development.

Between Linate and the Forlanini park, the town is greener than its hinterland name suggests: farmsteads, golf and cycle paths. San Felice and Milano 2 remain urban-planning case studies: here the hinterland set the standard.
