The patron of Montechiaro d'Acqui is Saint George, celebrated on 23 April, to whom the Chiesa di San Giorgio is dedicated.
The trade in salted anchovies, a historic activity of the municipality, is recalled by the annual festival of the «Anciuada der castlan», on the first Sunday of May at Montechiaro Alto, when the procession of the Confraternita di Santa Caterina, keeper of the relic of the Holy Thorns, also takes place; on 12 August, in the hamlet of Piana, the «Fera» is held, the main fair for trading cattle, the only one in the province of Alessandria, which in winter extends to the Fera del Bue Grasso of 8 December.
