Castiglione Falletto

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 708 · Postal code: 12060

The double name came late: until 1589 the place was simply Castiglione, then Falletto was added, from the Falletti, an Alba family that had held the fief for centuries. After the fall of Marchese Gabriele di Saluzzo the village passed to France, and stayed there until 1601, when the Treaty of Lyon handed it to Savoy.

The castle stands on top, seen from far off: a quadrangular fortress with a walled circuit and a garden on two stacked levels. The round brick tower of the circuit still shows the holes left by the scaffolding. The town's arms carry two lions and, below, a scroll with a single word: Segur.
