Our Lady of Mount Carmel, patron of the land of the Castello di Grinzane Cavour
📅 Every year, on 16 July
Grinzane Cavour celebrates Our Lady of Mount Carmel on 16 July.
The village was called simply Grinzane until 1916, when it added the name of Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour. The statesman had served as its mayor for seventeen consecutive years, and he was only twenty-two when they appointed him.
The medieval castle stands above the houses and was long the heart of the family's farming estate; it now holds the regional wine cellar, and the literary prize named after the village was based here too. Since 2014 it has belonged to the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato vineyard landscape on the World Heritage list. One of the Barolo vineyard names recorded within the commune is simply Castello.
