On 8 September Verduno, a municipality of 577 inhabitants in the province of Cuneo, celebrates its patroness the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.
Verduno is one of the eleven comuni where Barolo may be made, yet the wine that carries its name is another: Verduno Pelaverga, from the grape of the same name. The blessed Sebastiano Valfrè was born here, and here stands the hospital serving the country around Alba and Bra.
The castle joins two different blocks: one pale-plastered, with green shutters and a carved wooden door under a shield, the other in bare brick with pilaster strips and tall windows above a gravel courtyard. The arms repeat a drawing of 1824 painted on a municipal document, and the chief added under Fascism was later emptied of its symbols.
