Feast of San Michele Arcangelo
📅 Every year, on the third Sunday of September
On the third Sunday of September Buriasco, a municipality of 1,405 inhabitants in the province of Turin, celebrates its patron San Michele Arcangelo.
From the late thirteenth century Buriasco belonged to the Savoy-Achaea branch, which held Ivrea, Chieri, Pinerolo, Fossano and Savigliano. In 1356 Giacomo d'Acaia put a toll on merchants passing through Chieri and Testona towards the Via Francigena of the Susa valley: he wanted them on a road of his own, up the Chisone valley and over Montgenèvre into the Dauphiné.
Amedeo VI of Savoy, the Green Count, would not have it: he answered with arms and the following winter occupied Buriasco together with Frossasco. For a village near Pinerolo it was a war of roads between two branches of one house, over which way the goods bound for France should travel.
