Piscina

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 3,450 · Postal code: 10060

The name would come from the fishponds: tanks where fish were raised, enough of them to name the place. The toponyms around point the same way — Marsaglia from "rotten ground", Moje from "soft ground" — and the arms say it plainly: a tree and a lake with two silver fish swimming.

The old centre belonged to the comune of Oliva, and it was long argued whether Piscina or Tavernette should be the seat. The people of Piscina settled it in 1797 by a raid: they went to Tavernette and carried off the documents, the insignia and the communal archive. From the next year the council met here, and in 1801 the two comuni were split.
