Prarostino sits in the foothills near Pinerolo, where the val Chisone and the val Pellice meet: the Waldensian valleys. The land climbs from hill to mountain, and the two Piedmontese names say so: Prustin da val below, Prustin da munt above. The main settlement is San Bartolomeo, with smaller hamlets around it: Gay, Ser and i Piani.
At San Bartolomeo stands the Faro della Libertà, the chief monument of the comune: the architects Gabetti and Isola designed it and it was unveiled in 1967, in memory of the 600 partisans from the fifty-one comuni of the Pinerolo valleys who fell in the liberation struggle.
