Sambuca di Sicilia

Province: Agrigento · Region: Sicily · Population: 6,114 · Postal code: 92017

Positioned 68 kilometers southwest of Palermo, Sambuca di Sicilia grew around the historic fortress of the Arab emir Al Zabut. To distinguish it from a Tuscan town of the same name, this municipality of roughly 6,100 residents legally appended "Zabut" to its title in 1864, keeping the emir's moniker until 1923.

Now designated as one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia, the town sits 89 kilometers northwest of Agrigento. Sharing municipal borders with Menfi, Sciacca, and Caltabellotta, it serves as a geographic crossroads between the island's agricultural interior and the southwestern coast.
