Few pastries come with a birth certificate: this one dates to 1725, when Sister Virgilia Casale, abbess of the Collegio di Maria, created it for the wedding of Marquis Pietro Beccadelli. The breast shape — said to echo the hills around town — gave it the name minna di virgini, and today it is an officially recognised traditional food product.
The fair, run by the Palio dell'Udienza committee, takes place during the patron saint celebrations in May: local pastry shops man the tasting stalls in Piazza della Vittoria, with shows and concerts running into the night. At the 2026 edition, on Saturday 16 May, TV personality Raffaella Fico did the honours as madrina, and a Nineties-themed party closed the evening.
