The patron of Randazzo is Saint Joseph, and the patron's holiday falls on 19 March.
On 15 August, though, comes the town's most keenly felt feast: that in honour of Maria Santissima Assunta, the town's patroness. In the early afternoon, along via Umberto, «'a Vara» parades — from the Latin vara, a trestle, a forked pole for hanging nets on —, a float shaped like a pole, richly decorated, about 18 metres tall and dating from the 16th century. On the Vara sit around thirty children representing the mysteries of the death, assumption and coronation of the Virgin Mary, and the procession crosses the lava-paved streets of the old centre, built on the last edge of an ancient Etna lava flow.
