Sulphur and salt mineral extraction has historically driven the economy of Centuripe, alongside its agricultural output and local water springs. Positioned 61 kilometres from Enna, this municipality of around 5,600 residents occupies a hilly stretch of land between the Dittaìno and Salso rivers.
The settlement's roots trace back to the ancient Sicels. Following rapid Hellenization in the 4th century BC, it fell into the political orbit of Syracuse. Centuripe reached peak prosperity during the Hellenistic and Roman eras, a long phase of wealth that left behind significant archaeological ruins.

From 15 to 19 September Centuripe celebrates its patrons Saint Prosper and Saint Rosalia, with religious services, concerts and events; on the 20th the traditional market dedicated to Saint Prosper is held.
A golden half-moon of shortcrust dusted with icing sugar, hiding cocoa, chopped almonds and chickpea flour: the sweet of Agira, in the Erei mountains, a recognised traditional product with its own municipal denomination.
