The patron saint of Alcara li Fusi is Saint Nicholas Politi, celebrated on 3 May and 17 August.
The town's best-known and most studied popular religious tradition, however, is that of 24 June, the feast of Saint John the Baptist, known as «U Muzzuni»: the term refers to jugs without a neck, called "mozzate" (beheaded), to bundles of wheat gathered after the harvest, and to a ritual of symbolic beheading tied to the figure of the saint. Repeatedly studied by anthropologists and historians of religion, the feast preserves numerous pagan elements linked to the cult of the goddess Demeter and originally to the summer solstice of 21 June, more than to the Christian feast of Saint John.
